Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Appxcellence ("we", "us", "our") handles information in connection with the HookLab AI iOS application ("HookLab", "the app") and the website at hooklab.appxcellence.net.
The short version: we do not require an account, we do not use third-party analytics, we do not sell or share your data, and your hooks live on your device. The longer version follows.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Information you provide
When you use HookLab to generate hooks, you type a topic (and optionally select a style). That topic text is sent to Anthropic's Claude API so the AI can generate hook suggestions for you. The generated hooks are returned to your device.
We do not store your topics or your generated hooks on our servers. Your favorites, history, and saved hooks are kept locally on your iPhone (and, if you have iCloud enabled for HookLab, in your personal iCloud — which we cannot access).
1.2 Information collected automatically
HookLab uses Apple's DeviceCheck framework to generate an anonymous, per-device token. This token allows us to enforce the free-tier daily generation limit and to detect abuse without identifying you. The DeviceCheck token cannot be linked back to your name, email, Apple ID, or any personal identifier.
We log basic, non-identifying technical information at our backend (Cloudflare Worker) when your app calls the generation endpoint: timestamp, the device token, response status, and rate-limit counters. These logs are retained for up to 30 days for abuse prevention and operational debugging, then deleted.
1.3 Information we do not collect
- No name, no email address, no phone number.
- No password (the app has no account system).
- No location, no contacts, no photos.
- No advertising identifiers (IDFA), no tracking pixels.
- No third-party analytics SDKs (no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Firebase Analytics, no Facebook SDK).
2. How Anthropic / Claude processes your topics
HookLab is powered by Anthropic's Claude AI. When you generate hooks, the topic text you typed is transmitted to the Claude API to be processed. Anthropic's handling of API inputs is governed by Anthropic's Commercial Terms and Privacy Policy.
According to Anthropic's published policies, API inputs and outputs are not used to train Anthropic's models by default. For full details, see Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
We send only the topic text and the selected style — never your device identifier, never any personal information, never your library of saved hooks.
3. In-app purchases
If you choose to buy Pro Pack ($4.99) or Pro+ Pack ($7.99), the purchase is handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We receive an anonymous transaction receipt that we validate with Apple's servers to unlock your purchase. We never see your credit card, your Apple ID email, or your billing address — Apple handles that.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
The HookLab iOS app does not use cookies. The marketing website at hooklab.appxcellence.net does not set tracking cookies. Your browser may use technically necessary cookies (for example, to remember your dark-mode preference at the OS level); we do not control or use those.
5. iCloud sync (optional)
If you have iCloud enabled on your iPhone and you allow HookLab to use iCloud, your saved hooks and favorites are synced through your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. This data is encrypted by Apple and we cannot access it. You can disable iCloud sync for HookLab at any time in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud.
6. Children's privacy
HookLab is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13, in line with COPPA (US) and equivalent regulations in other jurisdictions. If you believe a child under 13 has used HookLab, contact us at privacy@appxcellence.net and we will delete any associated device token.
7. Your rights (GDPR, CCPA, and equivalents)
Because we do not collect personal data that identifies you, most data-subject rights apply trivially: there is nothing tied to your identity for us to disclose, correct, or delete on our side.
You still have the following rights:
- Right to access: Your hooks and favorites are on your device — open the app to view them. Email us if you believe we hold anything else.
- Right to deletion: Delete the app to remove all locally stored data. To also clear your iCloud copy, go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → HookLab AI → Delete Data. To request deletion of the anonymous device-token rate-limit counters in our logs, email privacy@appxcellence.net with your DeviceCheck token (visible in the app's About screen).
- Right to object / restrict processing: Stop using the app at any time. There is no account to close.
- Right to data portability: Pro+ Pack includes bulk export of your favorites to CSV or Notion.
- Right to lodge a complaint: EU/UK residents may contact their national data protection authority. California residents may contact the California Privacy Protection Agency.
8. App Tracking Transparency (Apple ATT)
HookLab does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. We do not display an ATT prompt because we have nothing to track.
9. Data security
Communication between the app and our backend is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher. Our backend runs on Cloudflare's edge network. We follow industry-standard security practices, but no system is 100% secure — if we ever discover a breach affecting any data we hold, we will disclose it on this page within 72 hours.
10. International data transfers
Anthropic's Claude API may process your topic text on servers located in the United States. By using HookLab outside the US, you understand that this transfer occurs. We rely on Anthropic's contractual safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable) for these transfers.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this Privacy Policy in a material way, we will update the "Effective date" at the top and post a notice in the app. Continued use of HookLab after a change indicates acceptance.
